Daze of Glory Tournament — Winthrop Rink

Like wind through a tank top, so is the daze of glory.

Summertime and the living’s … sporty. Because who wants easy living when you can play warm-weather sports over at the Winthrop Rink? Thanks to the installation of an all-new multi-sport flooring system, the rink is now optimized for all manner of foot, ball, and roller sports.

That means, gone are the days of slippery traction, strained joints from running on concrete, and rain delays. It’s the dawning of a new era at the rink and to celebrate we’re launching a Spring/Summer event series called:

Daze of Glory

The series kicks off on Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27, 2024) with a Ball Hockey Tournament:

NBHL Full-Rink, 5 v. 5 (plus goalies) $800 per team

Co-Ed Cross-Rink, 4 v. 4 (plus goalies) $450 per team

The weekend also includes a Multi-Sport Expo when people can try their hand (or foot) at some of the new sports offered at the Winthrop Rink, including:

Basketball
Soccer
Live Concert Roller Skating (You read that right!)

Ball Hockey Tournament INFO

The Daze of Glory Ball Hockey Tournament is an opportunity for adults to participate in a competitive and fun ball hockey tournament. The tournament has two divisions, Full-Rink and Cross-Rink. A full schedule and list of rules will be sent out 10 days prior to the tournament. If you have specific questions not answered below, email us at tournaments@winthroprink.org

Full-Rink Division

PARTICIPANTS: Registration is open to teams comprised of Tier 3/4 Level ball hockey players, or the equivalent of B/C Level ice hockey players. Maximum roster size is 20 players. Participants must be 21 (as of 04/25/2024) or older. This is a co-ed tournament, though teams are not required to have female participants.

GAME FORMAT: Games are played full rink at 5v5, with goalies and NHL-sized nets. All teams must field goalies. Teams are guaranteed at least 4 games in the tournament (3 round robin, 1 playoff).

RULES: Tournament referees and officials will follow NBHL standard rules, which includes a “floating blue line” for offsides.

Cross-Rink Division

PARTICIPANTS: Teams comprised of players at all levels are invited to play. Maximum roster size is 12 players. Participants must be 21 (as of 04/25/2024) or older. This is a co-ed tournament, though teams are not required to have female participants.

GAME PLAY: Cross-rink games are played 4v4, with goalies and NHL-sized nets. All teams must field goalies. Teams are guaranteed at least 4 games in the tournament (3 round robin, 1 playoff). Cross-rink boundary is defined by one-foot tall pads that bisect the rink. Players hop over the red pads to go in/out of the field of play.

RULES: Games are played with modified NBHL rules, including: A ball shot or bounced over the padded boundary results in a throw in to the other team. No offsides. All penalties result in penalty shots.
